PRESENTATION: The Icelandic spar is a variety of transparent calcite where the birefringence or double refraction is observed clearly: any incident light rays splits perpendicularly in two rays linearly polarized perpendicularly between them. This last phenomenon can be analyzed with the rotation of a polarizer.
